‘Definitely 5 stars!
My partner and I had a really terrible experience at another business […] which we cancelled a boat purchased due to. […]
Thank you guys for really turning our experience around […]
We really appreciate how friendly you all were and how upfront you were during our experience.
We’ll definitely be recommending you to all our mates.’
New Mercury motors require a first service after 20 hours of use or in the first 3 months – whichever comes first. From there it’s a good idea to service your outboard every 100 hours run time or every 12 months, whichever comes first. (For the average casual boater, 100 hours works out to around once a year).
Your boat needs to be serviced every 100 hours or 12 months (whichever comes first). It’s also a good idea to run through a pre-excursion checklist each time you go out on the water. (This checklist from the New South Wales government is a good example.) If you notice anything that isn’t compliant, schedule an inspection with your nearest Mercury workshop.
The cost of annual servicing depends on your boat, how often you take it out, and how you treat it. If you’re a casual boater who goes out a few times a month on the river, expect to pay around $350 a year to service a small outboard on a Bluefin-type hull.
No, it’s not. If you’re a relatively casual boater, 500 hours equates to around 4 or 5 years of usage. A well-maintained engine can last substantially longer, although we’ll often recommend a repower at the 10,000-hour mark. Even if your engine is still functional, the cost of maintaining it at that age is normally cost-inefficient.
We use Mercury CDS G3, the gold standard in outboard motor diagnostic software.
